Ms Anita Smith, President of the Guardianship and Administration Board, has advised Her Excellency, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AM, Governor of Tasmania of her resignation from the Board.

Ms Smith has been the President of the Guardianship and Administration Board since 1 January, 2003, and her recent appointment to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Human Rights Division is a testament to her hard work over the last 13 years.

In both her professional and personal life, Ms Smith has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the well-being of disadvantaged people within our community, particularly in their relationship with the justice system. During her term as president, she has become recognised as a national and international expert on disability and guardianship laws.

On behalf of the Government, I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her commitment and service during her time as President and wish her well in her new role.

Ms Smith’s resignation will take effect from 31 March 2016. An appointment process consistent with the Guardianship and Administration Act 1995 will be undertaken, with advertisements seeking expressions of interest in the position appearing in newspaper this weekend.

In accordance with the Act, Deputy President Mr Colin McKenzie will exercise the functions of the President in the interim.
