Wikipedia tells us that the author Tom Wolfe introduced into the English language the terms ‘the right stuff’ and ‘pushing the envelope’.
Like his namesake, Tom Wolfe is part of ‘The Wolfe Brothers’, a country rock band that has ‘the right stuff’ and is not afraid of ‘pushing the envelope ‘when it comes to experimenting with musical styles.
When I spoke to Tom last week he said that Tassie is and always will be home and that is why the boys ‘figured it was the best choice’ to unveil their new album in a series of gigs in Tasmania, where it all started and where they received and still do, their greatest support.
Tom says with the internet and easy connections there isn’t the need for those in the music business these days to make frequent visits to the mainland except when they have to for promotion and touring and even then it is only a quick trip to the airport.
Tom says when he gets to Sydney the stress levels go up! He revels in the comfortable life they live in Tassie. In saying that, the boys are loving their world travel, including stints staff writing in Nashville.
After years of being tradies,(Tom was a carpenter), the guys were able to leave those careers behind and now are full time musicians that can boast (not that they would), three successful albums in six years, including being recruited by country legend Lee Kernaghan to play as his band.
The single ‘One Beer At a Time’ from the new album has a particularly Celtic sound. Tom says he doesn’t know where that came from but it may be something genetic!. The guys want to move out of and stretch their comfort zone and to continue to create songs that connect with their audience. Tom says he believes the new album is ‘leaps and bounds’ better than anything they have done so far.
