Stop Needless Live Export Abuse
Animals Tasmania are appalled that 56 cattle died on a ship travelling from Tasmania to Victoria ( ABC HERE ).
Arguments have been raging for decades about the need to stop live export of non-human animals.
“It is intolerable that so many non-human animals die at sea during live export. Live export of any animal is wrong for so many reasons. It imposes needless stress and suffering on hundreds of thousands of individuals every year. Yet it could stop today.” said Chris Simcox, spokesperson for Animals Tasmania.
“This situation is symptomatic of a society that largely thinks of cattle, sheep, pigs and other non-humans as ‘things’ rather than beings.
Cattle are usually considered only in terms of their monetary value. Yet they each have very real intrinsic value.” said Mr Simcox.
“Non-human animals are not a ‘commodity’ to be shipped all over the world.
“These are sentient beings who can think, feel and suffer just as we can.”
Animals Tasmania exists to promote respect and kindness towards all non-human animals. We represent all animals, no exceptions.
