STATE: Tasmanian MPs set to receive $13,000 pay rise

Posted on

Tasmania’s politicians are in line for a pay rise of almost $13,000 in July, unless Parliament strikes out the independent arbiter’s ruling.

The Tasmanian Industrial Commission handed down its ruling this morning after the State Government last year tasked it with setting parliamentarians future pay rises.

The commission has determined the basic salary for a backbencher and member of the Opposition increase to $133,560, a 10.5 per cent increase.

The Premier’s annual wage would jump from $259,795 to $287,154.

The pay rise will flow to MPs, unless a majority in both houses of Parliament strikes out the ruling before June 30.

The commission has also determined salaries should increase in line with the wage price index next year.
