The name ‘Moss’ has a meaning of devotee or follower and Ian Moss, musician, is definitely a devotee or music but rather than a follower he is a leader in his craft.
He’s won five ARIAs, had success as part of Cold Chisel and a successful solo career. It happens to be the 10th anniversary of his classic work ‘Six strings’ written over five weeks at the Sandringham Hotel in Sydney and to celebrate Ian is doing a national tour. As well as the celebration of ‘Six strings’ Ian will also treat the audience to all the Chisel hits, his own solo singles, ‘some Hendrix and Creedance’ and a tantalising glimpse of some new songs.
Ian is looking forward to visiting Tasmania and calls it ‘beautiful’,’ fantastic’ yet, ‘a ‘quiet place’. Ian’s keen to sample some of our famous produce, particularly cheese and wines.
Ian comes from a large family that was characterised by a love of music. His mother was a Bob Dylan fan while his sister was a fine piano player and his brother is a songwriter that has collaborated with Ian.
Ian is doing some family history research so hopes to discover some ancestors who might also have musical talent.
It was always going to be a music career for Ian although he did toy with working in a tech capacity for Telstra as he always enjoyed tinkering around with guitars.
Now what started as tinkering has turned into the work of a master craftsman.
You can see IAN MOSS 10th Anniversary Six Strings Classics Tour 2016 on Saturday February 27 at Theatre Royal, Hobart.
