The CPSU’s Tom Lynch today notified the Government of the union’s latest stunt; he’ll be issuing a Notice of Action to members tomorrow.

It’s disappointing that the CPSU is pushing ahead with this stunt, but is a clear demonstration that its leader cares more about headlines than members.

Feedback received from a number of staff indicates that this approach being taken by the union is not widely supported among biosecurity officers.

Unlike the unions, we support and value the workers, and that’s why we’ve invested an additional $5 million into Biosecurity Tasmania.

We have also put in place a register of 20 casual support officers to assist in the busy summer period and beyond, and we’ve been working with the Commonwealth to make available Authorised Officers.

Tasmanians can be assured that despite this union stunt that Tasmania’s borders are well protected.

We have tried time and time again to engage constructively with the union, but it’s clear that time is wasted.
