The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to creating jobs and maintaining Tasmania’s economic momentum and infrastructure projects in Lyons, brought forward to this financial year, will help achieve that aim.
This year’s budget included a $315 million jobs package and a $1.8 billion infrastructure package.
There is a construction boom, retail sales are at record levels and 7200 jobs have been created in Tasmania since the election last year.
Invariably some infrastructure projects face unavoidable delays which is why the Tasmanian Government has moved to bring forward some shovel-ready projects from next financial so that the infrastructure spend is maintained this financial year.
I am delighted that in Oatlands, the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre fits into this category.
Funding of nearly $50,000 has been brought forward to upgrade the bathrooms in the Celia Button Wing.
Design work has been completed, a preferred contractor identified and works are expected to start early in the new year.
The Southern Midlands Community are highly supportive of this Centre and so is the Tasmanian Government, which is why we have brought forward this funding and why we have also announced this week that two paramedics will be based permanently at the Oatlands Ambulance Station.
We are also providing a second ambulance vehicle to support the service, to be staffed by local volunteers.
Infrastructure projects that were delayed this financial year will be provided the funds they require in next year’s budget. No projects will miss out.
This temporary re-allocation of funds is a sensible way to keep up the momentum in Tasmania’s economy and create jobs.
