The AvantiPlus Hellfire Cup is a 4 day mountain bike stage race held in Kellevie, South East Tasmania.

It’s held from Thursday 19th (today) and finishes up on Sunday 22nd November.

In it’s third year, the Hellfire Cup attracts a field of elite mountain bikers and enthusiasts from around the world, with over half of our pool of entrants being from outside of Tasmania.

The race injects valuable cash into the local economy which is still recovering from the 2013 bushfire emergency.

Mountain biking is experiencing a boom in Tasmania, with the state being widely regarded as the mountain bike tourism destination, attracting cyclists from all over the country, and in fact, all over the world.

More Information:

The race which is held on a mixture of private land in Kellevie and into the Wielangta State Forest and forestry showcases the South East of Tasmania, and riders experience a mixture of bushland, rainforest and scenic coastal riding. The racing format has a focus on pairs racing – this allows racers to support each other through the tough course and provides company in what can often be a solitary racing experience.

Quotes from Event Director Duncan Giblin:

“It was great to see so many interstate competitors turning up, and the racing in the elite category has been hotly contested. We’re looking forward to some exciting racing over the next few days. We’re also seeing a good mix of younger elite riders mixing it up with the seasoned professionals which is really encouraging for the future of the sport.”

“Feedback from the visitors to the state is that they’ve been really enjoying the organic trails and social nature of the event.”

“Tomorrow’s stage is a 50km adventure stage which will really test the competitors and will more than likely have a big influence in the final elite standings.”
