The AvantiPlus Hellfire Cup is a 4 day mountain bike stage race held in Kellevie, South East Tasmania.

The third day has racers heading out via a cruise stage to a beautiful farmland at Bream Creek that overlooks nearby Hellfire Bluff.

The format for the 4th race stage is a 14km time trial. The pairs racers have an opportunity to work together to get the best possible time. Race partners were working together taking turns on the front, and in some cases, giving their team mate a push on the last gruelling sprint in a gusty 40km/h headwind.

The competitors had a cruise stage return which took them past the Falls Festival site, winding up the scenic country road overlooking Marion Bay and Cape Bernier Vineyard. Taking the competitors back to the central race village in Kellevie.

Later in the afternoon, the riders took to the saddle again to take on a 9km classic mountain biking loop course. Pairs racers had a team relay doing a lap each and the solo competitors had to tackle the fast, cross country course twice.

In an optional night stage, our racers fight for the title of Rooke Wray & Jackson King of Kellevie and Insurance Solutions Queen of Kellevie with $1000 and bragging rights going to the first man and woman across the line. The race village lit up for the night state, with those who weren’t riding rugging up to cheer the racers on with cowbells and klaxon horns.

The race which is held on a mixture of private land in Kellevie and into the Wielangta State Forest and forestry showcases the South East of Tasmania, and riders experience a mixture of bushland, rainforest and scenic coastal riding. The racing format has a focus on pairs racing – this allows racers to support each other through the tough course and provides company in what can often be a solitary racing experience.
