CHRISTIANS URGED TO CONSIDER HARM TO LGBTI PEOPLE
OPPORTUNITY TO CONCILIATE WELCOMED
Human rights advocate, Martine Delaney, today released a video explaining her reasons for taking an anti-discrimination case against the Catholic Church’s “Don’t Mess With Marriage” booklet.
Ms Delaney said she made the video to counter the myths and misinformation about her complaint.
“In the video I explain that my case is about very specific statements against same-sex couples in the booklet, not Catholic doctrine or freedoms more broadly.”
“These includes the suggestions same-sex partners are not whole people, and our children are unhealthy.”
“I appeal to people of faith to consider the harm such statements cause lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people, and our families, instead of condemning and demonising us for standing up for ourselves.”
On Friday, it was revealed the Catholic Church may have a case to answer in regard to the booklet.
In response Ms Delaney has been accused of attacking religious values and free speech by taking her complaint.
Ms Delaney said she would welcome an opportunity to sit down with church representatives and talk about a resolution to her complaint before it goes to a hearing before the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal.
