Who wrote these words … ?

Posted on

Over a number of years I have been putting together a collection of silver mounted relics rather in the manner of “Parts of the True Cross”. These relics come in many forms, snuff boxes, walking sticks, blotters, book bindings even boot pulls and relate to ships, buildings, bridges, battles naval and land, and famous trees such as the Boscobel Oak.

I will be exhibiting my collection of some 70 items at the Runnymede Antique and Art Fair 2015 to help raise money for the Tasmanian National Trust from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th October at the romantic and historic house Runnymede, New Town, Hobart.

This box with its resonating inscription encapsulates much of Tasmania’s recent forest history … except that in the Tasmanian case nothing of consequence survives.

I here pose the question, who wrote these words?

The erudite readership of Tasmanian Times may be able to provide the answer …
