The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute (TLRI) has released its final report on the Law relating to Self-defence.
The review was undertaken in response to a referral from the Attorney-General in the previous government in November 2012 who requested the TLRI conduct a far-reaching examination of the law in Tasmania relating to self-defence and provide advice as to whether the law should be amended.
The TLRI has reviewed what is a very complex area of the law and made a number of recommendations.
Of note, there are several recommendations that relate to family violence situations and I will carefully consider these and the other recommendations contained in the report to inform any future law reform in this area.
