Seven new premium outdoor public gym stations are being installed in John Turnbull Park, Lenah Valley this month. The project, a vision of Leo Foley during his period as president has been led by Lenah Valley Community Association with Hobart City Council. The project has been made possible by a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund and community support.
The equipment will be unveiled during the Tasmanian Fire Service Open Day at the park by Hobart alderman Anna Reynolds at 1pm in a ceremony attended by the Lord Mayor’s office, Tasmanian Community Fund and Lenah Valley Community Association members.
Girl Guides will provide free activities for the children so parents are able to chat with the local brigade and browse their display.
Other community groups will be joining us to celebrate, including the Little Athletics, local Scouts and Guides, Red Cross and Loong Choo Kung Fu. . A wool spinning demonstration by Nomads Spinners and Weavers will be in the Community hall and the Community Association will be hosting a sausage sizzle from noon.
The Association Chairman, Bogdan Michalkowski said “It is very encouraging to have local residents and businesses like Lion Foods invest in our recreation spaces. John Turnbull Park is a valued community space providing recreation, health and well-being benefits to residents and visitors all year round”
The equipment is designed for people of all ages and abilities.
Hobart City Council Parks and Recreation Unit are excited about the project and have been cooperating closely with the Lenah Valley Association. Positioning of the equipment can be previewed on the Lenah Valley Community Association facebook page (or https://goo.gl/Ou3KuX)
