The Labor Opposition moved a no-confidence motion against State Growth Minister Matthew Groom because there can be no doubt that he deliberately misled Parliament.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the public could no longer believe a word Mr Groom said.
“Matthew Groom knowingly and deliberately misled Parliament and can no longer continue on as a Minister of the Crown,” Mr Green said.
“He has admitted that he did not mention the MOU concerning the possible transfer of the TasTAFE building, despite it being at the front of his mind..
“That proves he deliberately mislead the house.
“He gave an answer that he knew wasn’t true. Mr Groom has not apologised or attempted to correct the record.
“This morning he appeared to blame Opposition members for not knowing the full context surrounding his original answer.
“Both the Minister and Premier admit it was a stuff-up but it is more than that.
“If a Minister can get away with deliberately making a false statement then the Ministerial Code of Conduct isn’t worth the paper it is written on.
“If the Premier thinks that Mr Groom has acted appropriately then there is something seriously sick at the heart of his Government.”
