The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs.
Today I visited Incat, which has just announced it will increase its workforce by 50 per cent, and met some of the new employees that have started work. These are good jobs that will help the new employees provide for their families and make a real contribution to the local community and the local economy.
These are the real life examples of the recent string of positive figures and reports.
Last week, ABS data showed that the Hodgman Liberal Government had achieved its goal of reducing the unemployment rate to the national average, in the process creating 7,200 new jobs.
Today, two reports have been released that show the economic momentum in Tasmania is continuing to build. Deloitte Access Economics says that Tasmania is “still a bright spot in Australia’s investment outlook”, while the Property Council report shows that property industry confidence in Tasmania is the second highest in the nation and that the building and construction industry is going through a boom.
But there is still a lot of work to do if we are going to capitalise on the growing economic momentum. That’s why the budget included a $315 million jobs package.
We are seeing that our long-term Plan is working and that Tasmania is heading in the right direction.
