Monday 5 October | Campbell Town Football Grounds | 1pm – 3pm

State-wide mental health consumer organisation Flourish is hosting a community BBQ in Campbell Town in conjunction with the local Community and Health Service, the Football Club, Rural Alive and Well and the Northern Midlands Council as part of Mental Health Week this year.

The event aims to bring the community together to talk about mental health and discuss how we can support each other to become more mentally healthy.

The 2015 theme, ‘Mental Health Begins with Me’, is a simple message communicated by people making promises to keep mentally health on a promise wall, that will be on show at other Mental Health Week events across Tasmania.

We want to encourage everyone to look after and maintain their own mental health as they would their physical health. As part of the theme Flourish has invited Active Launceston and members from the local community to host some physical activities on the day.

Executive Officer of Flourish, Miranda Ashby, says, “At Flourish, Mental Health Week is a chance for all of us to get together and celebrate. People with a lived experience of mental ill-health will be sharing with the community their stories of strength and skills in keeping mentally healthy with the community.”

“We have around 100 people coming from the local community, supporting service providers and members of our Regional Advisory Groups for this event from across the state. This is a wonderful example of how a local community can join together to support each other to keep mentally healthy,” said Ms Ashby.

Everyone from the Campbell Town or surrounding communities is welcome at the BBQ and the event is free. The Mayor of the Northern Midlands Council will be opening the event and media representatives are welcome to attend. The formalities will begin at 1pm and people will be available for interview from 1.30pm.
