Presbyterian Care Tasmania has reached an agreement with May Shaw Health Centre Inc. for the transfer of North-East Aminya aged care facility to the Swansea based operator on Monday, 30 November.

In August it was announced a consortium, appointed by the former Aminya committee, under the auspice of Dorset Council had developed a proposal involving the May Shaw Health Centre to become Aminya’s approved provider and take on responsibility for the operation of the facility.

Chief Executive Officer of Presbyterian Care Tasmania John Brooks said under the mutual transfer agreement, protection is now provided for residents, staff and service providers through the transition process.

“An application has now been made to the Commonwealth which includes provisions for the transfer and safeguarding of residents accommodation bonds to be transferred to the new provider,” Mr Brooks said.

“It has been a difficult period for all concerned but we are delighted there has been a positive outcome.

“During the four years that Presbyterian Care operated Aminya we made significant financial investments upgrading residents amenities and furnishings, communications systems, implementing electronic resident records and medication systems so it is heartening to see this investment will continue to be put to good use.”

Mr Brooks said the announcement should offer certainty for residents, staff, family and friends of the facility as well as for the Dorset community.

“I congratulate all parties involved for coming together on this issue and wish May Shaw Health and the Dorset Council all the best for the future operations of Aminya,” Mr Brooks said.
