The Hodgman Liberal Government is a proud supporter of our service providers and volunteers and today I was delighted to open Meals on Wheels Tasmania’s 19th State Conference at the Launceston General Hospital.

Meals on Wheels is a well-recognised service provider in Tasmania, having just celebrated 60 years of service locally.

Since its start in Tasmania, Meals on Wheels has grown to 33 branches with around 1500 volunteers providing 175,000 meals to many parts of the State.

The social interaction, friendship and regular visits of the volunteers help build goodwill and maintain community spirit within our towns and suburbs.

In the 2015-16 Tasmanian State Budget, the Hodgman Liberal Government was pleased to provide Meals on Wheels Tasmania with $166,217 through its component of the Home and Community Care program.

Many food programs such as Meals on Wheels would not be possible without an unsung army of volunteers.

In recognition of the importance of volunteers, the Tasmanian Government has committed $260,000 to Volunteering Tasmania over the forward estimates to help support our volunteers.

I congratulate Meals on Wheels Tasmania and their staff and volunteers for their service to the Tasmanian community.
