The Lieutenant-Governor has this week accepted the resignation of Melanie Bartlett from her position as Magistrate.
Magistrate’s Bartlett’s resignation will be effective from 31 December 2015.
Magistrate Bartlett was first appointed as a temporary magistrate in 2005 before being appointed on a full time basis in 2009, being based out of Devonport and Burnie.
I thank her for her exceptional service to the Court, the justice system, and the Tasmanian community.
Magistrate Bartlett has made a significant contribution to the justice system in Tasmania, not only in her role as Magistrate but prior to that as a member of the Mental Health Tribunal, the Guardianship and Administration Board, the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and the Legal Aid Commission. She also held the offices of President and Vice-President of the Law Society.
The Government will immediately move to recruit a new North West based Magistrate to fill the vacancy to be created by Magistrate Bartlett’s resignation.
Vanessa Goodwin, Attorney-General
