The Hodgman Liberal Government’s Population Strategy is about putting Tasmania back on a path for long term population growth to make our state the place to live, work, study and invest.
At the heart of our $10 million strategy is $7.3 million for job creation and workforce development and $2.55 million to pursue migration and bring our ex-pats back home.
It was extremely pleasing today to visit Bulk Nutrients in Grove. This nutritional supplement company employs around 5 migrants and is a perfect example of a thriving Tasmanian business. Bulk Nutrients is one of Australia Post’s biggest customers in Tasmania, shipping 2,500 orders every week through online delivery.
Companies like this are key to driving our population growth and that’s why our Population Strategy contains funding to pursue job and business opportunities.
We are sending the message Tasmania is not only open for business, but is the best place to move to and operate a business, and the Government is actively supporting new businesses to move to the State, bringing jobs with them. The investment we are making will help to generate jobs and grow our population.
Tasmania is now heading in the right direction. 6,200 jobs have been created since the election, the unemployment rate is lower, business confidence is soaring and the economy is growing. Tasmania has received tremendous international exposure in recent times and the eyes of the world are on us.
We need to capitalise on this interest now. Population growth takes time. We recognise that the population target we have set for Tasmania is bold and ambitious, but it is a challenge we are ready to take on. We will only achieve our target with strategic intervention which will require short, medium and long term action involving cooperation between government, industry and the broader community.
