Greens Senator for Tasmania, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, will tomorrow attend hearings in Launceston for Senate Inquiries that he helped establish.
Senator Whish-Wilson said, “Tomorrow the future of Launceston and the Tamar Valley will be at the centre of the Senate’s attention.
On the Regional Capitals Inquiry:
“The reason I established the Regional Capitals Inquiry was to examine whether middle-sized cities, like Launceston, get ignored when governments make decisions about programs and investments.
“I look forward to hearing from councils across the region and from the University of Tasmania about what more can be done to make cities like Launceston thrive.
On the Wine Industry Inquiry:
“The government is seeking to overhaul the tax system for the Australian wine industry and if the wrong decisions are made it could be massively detrimental to businesses in Tasmania.
“The Tasmanian vineyards are not massive bulk producers and the government should realise that a one-sized approach will not suit everyone. It is really important for policy-makers to hear the perspectives from local growers tomorrow,” he concluded.
