This week the Solicitors’ Guarantee Fund (SGF) was announced by Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin and EDO Tas was excluded ( Vanessa Goodwin’s Media Release, here ).
We’d applied for funding over two years to employ expert staff to deliver our core services (see our press release, here) but we didn’t get a cracker.
The SGF provides critical funding for community legal centres across the state and almost all centres received some support.
We know we’re special, being the only community legal service with expertise in planning and environmental law. Our talented team provides Tasmanians from across the State with advice about rights, obligations and options.
We help people understand how they can have their voices heard and we apply our knowledge in constructive ways to improve the law. To improve the environment. We know we’re not alone in believing that’s important.
On top of the termination of our federal funding, over 12 months ago, exclusion from the SGF is another hard blow.
It’s cliché but, as Nietzsche said, “that which does not kill us, makes us stronger”.
We won’t be killed, but right now, our strength relies on our community and we need your support. Please become a monthly donor. Your commitment to our cause will enable EDO Tas to confidently plan for the future. We’d love you to set up a regular direct debit from your account to ours (BSB: 633-000 A/C: 140-268-558), or arrange a monthly online transfer through Give Now. Donations are tax deductible.
If you are a regular giver already, THANK YOU! We can’t do it without you. …And if your preference is one-off donations, we love those too ( here )!
Every cent counts and it all helps us keep using the law to protect the environment.
