Call for public submissions re the Tasmanian Government’s Review into the Industrial Hemp Industry

On 19 January 2015, Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water announced that the Government would introduce special purpose legislation to simplify regulation of the industrial hemp sector in Tasmania.

The Industrial Hemp Bill 2015 ( http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Documents/Industrial%20Hemp%20Bill%20Consultation%20Draft.pdf ) will enable research in, cultivation and supply of industrial hemp in accordance with a licensing scheme to be administered by the Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE).
A Regulatory Impact Statement ( http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Documents/Industrial%20Hemp%20Bill%20RIS.pdf ) regarding the Bill has been prepared by DPIPWE to examine the impact of the legislation on the hemp industry and Tasmanian community.

The Department would like to hear your views on the draft Bill and Regulatory Impact Statement.
