BETTY CHURCHER 1931–2015

Among Australian art’s most admired public figures, Betty Churcher, who died on Monday night aged 84, asserted that she was not ambitious, merely determined to do her best with opportunities that came along.

Her extraordinary success, first as an artist then an art teacher and administrator, was partly driven by frustration with limitations placed on her.
