The travelling Dutch ‘tent of mirrors’ is about to fling open its salon doors to Tasmanian audiences
for a second year running, with 25 jam packed days filled with circus, comedy, cabaret and burlesque
performances, family fun and the very best of Australian and international musical talent.

Artistic Director David Malacari said the Spiegeltent, part of the 2015 Tasmanian International Arts
Festival, would play host to 34 shows from 5-29 March 2015, and outside the tent the free Outdoor
Lounge’s bars and food experiences would be open to everyone, providing a great destination for an
alfresco food and beverage experience.

“We are very excited to have the Spiegeltent back after its successful debut in 2014 when over
16,000 people streamed through the mirrored doors for a night of theatrical magic,” Mr Malacari
said.

“In a Tasmanian first, a selection of Spiegeltent performers will also be stepping out of the tent to
entertain audiences in Launceston, Devonport and Burnie as part of the festival’s Spiegel Sideshow
program.

“Launching the Hobart Spiegeltent program is a free opening night party on Thursday, 5 March from
5pm featuring Silent Disco, The Dead Maggies, DJ No ReGrets, Dean Stevenson & the Rock Drop,
Mangus, a shadow photo booth from the Terrapin Puppet Theatre, a sampling of highlights from
internationally-acclaimed circus ensemble Circa from their show Beyond, plus an exclusive guest
spot from singer – songwriter and sexy Irish chanteuse Camille O’Sullivan.

“The free Outdoor Lounge will keep party goers refreshed with an array of fine Tasmanian produce
and beverages in a beautiful alfresco setting; featuring delights from Taco Taco and Urban Bounty,
and beverages from Jansz, Cascade, Domaine A, Stoney Vineyard, Dalrymple, McHenry and Sons
Distillery and Ritual Coffee.”

Mr Malacari said that after the opening night festivities, the program would begin in earnest with
headline act Circa, and their latest genre bending production Beyond.

“Beyond blends dynamic circus acts, such as trapeze and Chinese pole, with cheeky feats of strength
and oversized bunny heads, set to a bewitching mix of show tunes, ballads and electronica,” he said.
“Beyond’s astonishing world-class performers will create a rich circus cabaret experience for
audiences of all ages.

“Joining Beyond on the headline bill is internationally-acclaimed La Soirée, who proved to be the
most popular show in the Spiegeltent program in 2014, selling out and sparking the announcement
of an extra show to meet demand, which also completely sold out within 48 hours.

“With a cocktail of astonishing acrobats, mind-bending feats and thrilling chanteuses, spiced with a
pinch of the exotic and well-seasoned with humour, La Soirée is sure to again leave audiences
spellbound with its unforgettable naughty and hilarious evening of low inhibition entertainment.”

Mr Malacari said joining the headline acts gracing the Spiegeltent stage were some of Australia’s
favourite comedians, Denise Scott, Colin Lane and Ronny Chieng, alongside an all-star musical lineup,
including Archie Roach, jazz legend James Morrison, Asta, Jordie Lane, Paul D. Miller AKA DJ
Spooky, Dexter, Iceland’s Sóley, L-FRESH the Lion and multi-award winning singer Camille O’Sullivan
with her show Changeling.

“The Spiegeltent program also offers a fantastic range of family friendly entertainment in the form of
much loved Playschool host Justine Clarke, the UK’s The Chipolatas with their universally acclaimed
show Gentlemen of the Road, and the hilariously funny mix of chaos, comedy and acrobatics in
Kaput, “ he said.

“Our program of great family shows also includes Tasmania’s revered contemporary theatre
company, Terrapin, with its moving production Boats, and Linsey Pollak in Live and Loopy, featuring
electronic wizardry combined with DIY ingenuity to play a surprising array of instruments.

“For those looking for an extraordinary cabaret experience, Le Gateau Chocolat returns with his diva
performance in I ♥ Chocolat, after seducing Tasmanian audiences in 2014 as part of La Soirée and
being voted by Time Out London as one of its Top 10 Cabaret Stars.

“Whether you are looking for a spot to chill out after work to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat, a night of
laughter, some great music or an opportunity to kick up your heels, the Spiegeltent program will
have something for you.”

The Spiegeltent is brought to Tasmania by Ten Days in association with Strut & Fret Production
