Saturday Soapbox: Council must ensure Huon plan meets its Waterloo

DENNIS Bewsher’s plan to change Waterloo Bay from public open space to a permanent mooring area for huge barges for transshipping woodchips and quarry products to bulk carriers moored downriver comes before the Huon Valley Council on Wednesday.
It would be irresponsible of the council to approve this development application because Mr Bewsher’s application is not accompanied by a viable business plan. And why is Mr Bewsher pursuing this non-event when the State Government already has in place a preferred, properly researched, solution, which involves using existing infrastructure and nearby port facilities at Macquarie Point in Hobart?
