Treasurer Peter Gutwein’s disgraceful performance in Parliament this morning highlights he was never seriously interested in saving jobs.

The Industrial Commission yesterday handed the Treasurer a lifeline to save 300 jobs and he callously rejected it.

Deputy Labor Leader Michelle O’Byrne says the Liberal Government is again looking to pass the blame.

“The Government yesterday had the opportunity to make real savings in the Budget and decided to cut jobs instead,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“The Industrial Commission simply recommended the Government endeavour to limit additional job losses.

“Now The Treasurer is somehow trying to blame the Industrial Commission for his jobs cuts, it’s a disgrace.

“The Government’s swift rejection of the Industrial Commission’s findings also makes a mockery of its decision to hire highly paid interstate lawyers.

“The Liberals could have hired anyone to simply ignore the outcome of the hearing.

“The Government is now left with more than 800 jobs to cut in less than 8 months and this morning they admitted they don’t know how much redundancies will cost.

“Peter Gutwein’s Budget is in chaos.”
