Today’s NAB Monthly Business Survey for October shows business confidence in Tasmania is by far the highest in the nation.
Compared to last month, it has risen from 18 points to 21 points, triple the rate of confidence in the next highest state.
Business conditions have also increased to be above Queensland and South Australia.
While it’s early days and there’s still a lot of work to be done, the Tasmanian economy is recovering under the Liberal Government.
Since the election, we’ve seen 3,000 new jobs created and unemployment queues the shortest they’ve been in 18 months.
Retail trade is at a record high, building activity is up and the number of first home buyers’ housing finance commitments has increased more than 20 per cent in just 12 months.
We have a long-term Plan to grow the economy to create jobs and we are supporting businesses through our policies including the headworks holiday, payroll tax relief, cutting red and green tape and our Buy Local Policy, including a Local Benefits Test for Government tenders and contracts.
We were elected to fix the economy and while there is still work to be done, we are getting on with the job Tasmanians elected us to do and today’s figures show we are on the right track.
