Burlesque performers Grace Cherry and Scarlett Jezebel will be opening their latest show in Hobart next weekend.
“Burlesk as You Like It” will debut at the Playhouse Theatre for two shows only, taking audiences back to the golden era of burlesque – a time of saucy and glamorous entertainment; live music, and audiences dressed up to the nines.
“This is a great opportunity for burlesque lovers to experience burlesque as it was. The show is complete withe a live jazz band, extravagantly costumed performers, and a beautiful theatre”, producer Grace Cherry said.
“The show itself is offers something to burlesque ‘virgins’ and aficionados alike. Many of our audience members are coming for the music and atmosphere, but have no idea what the entertainment has in store. But we also have burlesque lovers that are thrilled to see burlesque as it would have been performed in its ‘hey dey’ in the 1940s 0r 1950s”, she said.
“We have performers coming from all across Australia to appear at this event. Burlesque in Hobart has come a long way in the past few years, to the point where we attract really high calibre of burlesque performers”, co-producer Scarlett Jezebel said.
Burlesk as You Like It will feature Australian Burlesque Festival producer Dolores Daiquiri and Australia’s “Top Showgirl” Sarina del Fuego. Melbourne’s Hottest performer Evie Red, and Canberra’s best tassel twirler Deb Delicious will also appear.
Tasmanian audiences can expect some of their favourite local artists to appear: Grace Cherry, Scarlett Jezebel and Oopsy Daisy.
Burlesk as You Like It will be showing at the Playhouse on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of November. Tickets are $30 Concession or $35 Adult from www.misskittysmeow.com (Events page) . Door sales will be available for $40 (cash only).
Hobart ladies looking to learn from the best in burlesque will be able to attend workshops hosted by the stars of “Burlesk as You Like It” on Saturday 15th of November at Tasmania’s Pole Dancing and Burlesque Academy | 57 Main Rd Moonah. The producers encourage audience members to dress up in the spirit of night, and dust of their best dresses and suits. Prizes for best dressed will be awarded at each show.
