The Liberal Government is today launching the Rethink Mental Health Project, a key component of our election commitment to deliver a long-term plan for mental health as part of rebuilding a broken health system.
Appropriately, today is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s national campaign theme – “mental health begins with me” – is a reminder that we can all take personal ownership of our own mental health and wellbeing.
The Liberal Government is committed to improving services to help all Tasmanians take charge of their mental health and obtaining support.
The Rethink Mental Health Project will provide an independent analysis of Tasmania’s public, private, federal, State and community mental health services.
It will map existing services, identify gaps and barriers to accessing services and treatment, and make recommendations for system reform and strategic investment into services, workforce and capital infrastructure.
The result will be a long-term plan for mental health in Tasmania that guides investment into the next decade.
The Liberal Government is committed to developing an integrated mental health system that provides support in the right place, at the right time and with clear signposts about where and how to get help.
The Rethink Mental Health Project represents an exciting opportunity to design a mental health system that supports everyone involved – from individuals and carers through to service providers across the full spectrum of care.
The Mental Health Council of Tasmania will play a lead role in the Rethink project, working in partnership with the Government.
The Council will host a series of consultations with stakeholders and the broader community to allow all voicest to be heard.
