Labor Leader Bryan Green congratulates the winners of the Tasmanian Australian of the Year awards.

“Last night’s ceremony in Hobart was truly inspiring and an honour to attend,” Mr Green said.

“This year’s selections were all very humble in receiving their awards but clearly they are all working extremely hard in their own way to make Tasmania a better place to live and work.”

Mr Green paid tribute to Adam Mostogl (Young Tasmanian Australian of the Year), Henry Reynolds (Senior Tasmanian Australian of the Year) and Smithton’s Mary Kay (Tasmanian Local Hero).

“Three great Tasmanians at different stages of their lives, all recognised for making the state a more interesting place,” Mr Green said.

“But the night’s big winner was no doubt Rodney Croome.

“Rodney’s a tireless advocate for equal rights in Tasmania and across Australia.

“His leadership on behalf of the LGBTI community is an inspiration to many and has been for a very long time.

“Rodney’s energy, enthusiasm and ability to keep fighting for what he believes in has to be admired.

“Throughout Rodney’s time advocating for change, Tasmania has become a more inclusive place.

“But we still have some way to go and that’s why I’m proud to reaffirm my support for marriage equality.”
