Today the Liberal Government officially opened the Port Sorell Community Recreation and Performing Arts Centre.
The Centre contains a new large sports and community centre, meeting rooms, upgraded toilet and change facilities and improvements to the existing hall for use as a performing arts centre.
The new Centre provides the only indoor recreation facility within the Port Sorell community that is able to adequately cater for the growing number of sporting groups and community members in the area.
The Centre will also provide recreation opportunities for the recently established Port Sorell Primary School that is directly adjacent to the new Centre.
The Latrobe Council spent many years planning for this project, with strong community support backing the idea.
The success of the development of this Centre is largely due to the high level of community support, the extensive amount of planning undertaken by the Council over a number of years, and the co-operative funding of the three tiers of government.
It is very encouraging that this great project has been finished can be now enjoyed by the Port Sorell community.
The Liberal Government remains committed to supporting community groups around Tasmania.
