Respect The Mountain were thrilled to learn that the Hobart City Council had agreed to consider development application for The Springs site that are consistent with the Wellington Park Management Plan 2013 (WPMP).

Not only do Development Applications have to be consistent with the WPMP, but the Council has specific tasks to be addressed by any proponent which push the focus of a development to include the interests of mountain users.

Spokesperson for Respect The Mountain, Jason Turvey, said: “We were specifically happy to see the requirement for a ‘Designated meeting point for tours, interpretive programs and guided activities’. This is a bold requirement that allows for additional interpretive tourism ventures and we expect the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania (TICT) to be equally supportive of this requirement.

“We will be excited to see all of the DA’s after January 2015. The future of The Springs needs to be upgraded and we’re thankful that the Hobart City Council has the vision to
allow this to happen.”
