Labor Leader Bryan Green today welcomed MyState receiving a banking licence as a positive development for Tasmania.

But Mr Green said Premier Will Hodgman had set a dangerous precedent by allowing companies to pay for Government support.

Mr Green called on Mr Hodgman to explain why he allowed Government sponsored full page advertisements in Tasmania’s three daily newspapers to be paid for by MyState Bank.

“The full page advertisements give the impression it is an open letter of support for MyState Bank from Will Hodgman and the Tasmanian Government,” Mr Green said.

“It has now been revealed these ads were produced and paid for by MyState.

“This means the Tasmanian Government logo and Will Hodgman’s own signature are up for sale.

“The door is now open for any company to buy the support of this Government.

“Mr Hodgman has clearly compromised the integrity of his Government.”
