Hobart, Tasmania — Hobart Junior Roller Derby League (HJRD) is proud to announce that five junior
skaters have been selected to join Junior Team Australia.

“It was so exciting to see the kids from Hobart Junior Roller Derby not only match the national standard
but also thrive! We are ahead of the curve in this fast growing international sport, and we have a team of
skaters who are ready to take on the world! This is a very exciting time for junior roller derby!” – Matylda
Chugg & Hannah Smith, coaches.

The five HJRD skaters who have been selected for the Australian team are: Big Ted #80 (Edward Chugg,
age 14), Darth Skater #42 (Avon Blazely, age 14), Samurai #127 (Sam Graudins, age 16), Stelz Belz
#243 (Stella Higgins, age 13), and Whomping Willow 9 ¾ (Willow Campbellbarrows, age 14). Only
twenty-six people from all around Australia were selected.

In 2015 twenty members of Junior Team Australia will travel to Seattle, USA to compete at the Junior
Roller Derby World Cup. Afterwards they will also compete in the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA)
Championships against the toughest derby skaters USA has to offer. In the lead-up to these international
events, our skaters will be traveling interstate regularly to train with their team.

If you are interested in seeing these Australian representatives in action, junior skaters from HJRD and
other leagues will be presenting a 30-minute showcase roller derby game at 5:45 on the 25th of October
at Aurora Sport Stadium, New Town. Afterwards Convict City Roller Derby League will be headlining in
their final ‘at home’ bout against Kingston City Rollers, from Victoria.
