Labor Leader Bryan Green has called on the Government to come clean on whether it will honour its election promise to cut Spirit of Tasmania fares by 20 per.

“A drop in the TT Line’s profit of more than $2 million leaves a big question mark over whether there is scope for fares to be reduced,” Mr Green said.

“There was no indication of fares being cut in the TT Line’s annual report released today.

“TT line’s annual report also shows maintenance costs will rise for the 16 year-old vessels, yet the Government has not revealed whether it has a strategy or timeline to replace the ships.”

“What feedback has Rene Hidding had from the TT Line?

“The Liberals pledge to cut Spirit fares was always a dodgy election promise and shows how naive and dishonest they were about their ability to set prices.

“Now the Government should be up front and not offer false hope about cutting fares.

“It is very pleasing to see an increase in passenger numbers but that’s being used by the Government to distract people from its failure to deliver cheaper fares on the Spirits.

“If Mr Hidding has gone cold on the idea he needs tell Tasmanians.”
