A new app will help Tasmania’s civil construction industry improve the safety of its workers by streamlining compliance checklists and procedures.
Developed by the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) in conjunction with Collective Intelligence Construction (CIC), the app will also make safety compliance more efficient, saving businesses time and money.
Launched today at the construction site of Hobart’s new Bunnings store, the Prestart app is a great innovation that is being trialled in Tasmania.
Complying with safety regulations and standards is critical, particularly in the construction industry and anywhere that you are working with heavy machinery.
But completing, submitting and filing paperwork can be tedious and time-consuming, and misplacing that paperwork could result in businesses being held to be in breach of regulations or, worse, could see a safety hazard not being addressed.
The Prestart app focuses on pre-start checks on construction equipment, which ensure the equipment is properly maintained to prevent faults and is safe to operate.
Using the app on a smart phone or tablet, the operator will be able to conduct the pre-start check on equipment and sign a report that will be emailed to safety officers, maintenance teams and the customer.
On behalf of the Government, I commend CCF Tasmania and CIC on this project, and especially on their decision to make the app available for free for the month of November. Prestart can be downloaded at www.toolshedapp.com
