The Liberal Government is committed to supporting our competitive strengths, such as tourism.

We have a target of 1.5 million visitors per year by 2020, which is why we have delivered an additional $16 million for tourism marketing in the state budget.

In the 12 months to March a record 1.06 million visitors travelled to our state. New products will help us to build on this.

The Tasmanian Walking Company already has an international reputation, offering travellers a chance to get off the beaten track on two of the eight Great Walks of Australia; the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk and the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk.

Subject to final approvals, from October the new four day Wineglass Bay Sail Walk will showcase Maria Island, Schouten Island, Cooks Beach and Wineglass Bay.

The tour will also include a six day package that includes the Three Capes Track, a project which the Government is investing $4 million for the final stage.

We have also called for Expressions of Interest from investors and tourism operators with ideas for sensible and appropriate tourism developments in our National Parks and World Heritage Area.

We’re getting on with our plan to grow our economy and create jobs.
Will Hodgman, Premier Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
