Kim Evans has been appointed as the new secretary of the Department of State Growth and John Whittington as the secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
Mr Evans, who has been acting secretary of the Department of State Growth since April was selected following a national recruitment process.
Mr Evans is a proven leader with a record of almost 20 years in senior executive service within the Tasmanian Government.
Previously secretary to the DPIPWE, Mr Evans has overseen the successful merger of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, and the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts into State Growth.
The new department is at the forefront of the Liberal Government’s long-term plan for the future of Tasmania, facilitating job creating investment, reducing barriers to growth and developing strategies to drive state growth.
John Whittington takes on the role of secretary of DPIPWE after acting in the role since April and previously being the deputy secretary.
Mr Whittington has a strong science background with a PhD in science from the University of Adelaide. He worked for CSIRO and in various universities around the world before joining the Tasmanian public service 12 years ago.
Since then Mr Whittington has worked in water resources and resource management generally. He has high level skills in managing multi-disciplinary teams, managing financial resources and delivering diverse business requirements and for past five years has led the government’s expansion of aquaculture and irrigation in the state.
I congratulate both men and wish them well in their appointments.
