Last Thursday’s report of a former Muslim leader’s concern about the rise of Islamic fascism, linked with the misappropriation of Islamic school taxpayer funding by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, seems to have been largely ignored by the rest of the mainstream media,” FamilyVoice Australia research officer Ros Phillips said today.

“Yet Haset Sali’s statement raises questions about where the siphoned money ended up. Did it merely line the pockets of Islamic Councillors – or was it used for other purposes, possibly overseas?”

Ros Phillips said another issue, rarely mentioned publicly due to fears about anti-discrimination laws, is the increasing Islamic “Halalification” of products in Australian supermarkets. The fees to Islamic halal certifiers are effectively a religious tax imposed on companies in return for Muslim business. The tax is passed on to consumers.

Dick Smith has refused to pay the sometimes exorbitant fees for Halal certification, but many companies, from abattoirs to confectioners, do so.

“Most meat products that have been processed according to Halal rites are not labelled Halal,” Ros Phillips said. “Shoppers cannot choose to avoid them.

“We have no way of knowing where the halal certification ‘tax’ – passed on by the food company – ends up. Does some of it go overseas? Surely Team Australians have the right to know!”
