Labor Leader Bryan Green said today it is now clear the Premier’s office has committed a serious breach of procurement guidelines through the appointment of highly paid fly-in fly-out spin doctor, Ian Hanke.

Mr Green said responses to questions on notice asked by the Opposition during estimates have revealed Mr Hanke has now worked for 60 days, at an estimated pay rate of $1000 a day.

‘The Treasurer’s Instructions require agencies to seek three written quotes for contracts worth over $50,000, including at least one from a Tasmanian provider,” Mr Green said.

”There is no evidence that the Liberal Government followed this process.

“More seriously, the Government has confirmed that Mr Hanke has been engaged for the term of government, which on current trend means he will be paid far in excess of the $250,000 contract threshold which requires an open and advertised tender process. Clearly this has not occurred.

“Mr Hodgman has serious questions to answer about why his office blatantly breached the Treasurer’s Instructions and the Government’s own buy local policy.

“Mr Hanke’s role as chief spin doctor for the HR Nicholls Society has now been exposed and his finger prints are all over the Government’s far right wing agenda.

“This dodgy appointment gets murkier by the day.”
