Minister for State Growth Matthew Groom has confirmed that funding provided to TasTAFE for Vocational Education and Training will be cut, but has kept secret the size of the reduction.
“The Budget papers make it clear that funding to TasTAFE will be cut, yet after six months as a Minister, Mr Groom bizarrely is unable to quantify the reduction,” Greens Education spokesperson Nick McKim MP said.
“Skills development is crucial for Tasmania’s future prosperity, yet the Liberals are planning to take the axe to TasTAFE. It is just the size of the axe that remains a closely guarded secret.”
“This will undoubtedly result in job losses at TasTAFE, as well as causing significant uncertainty for private sector Registered Training Organisations,” Mr McKim said.
