The City of Hobart Bushfire Strategy 2104 has been recommended by the Parks committee last week for the full Council to endorse the strategy and then to commence to implement.
The detailed strategy covers bushfire-related responsibilites and actions grouped around Council’s role in planning, land management, regulation, community development and emergency management.
Alderman Jeff Briscoe said today “The strategy has been through a community engagement process, resulting in submissions from the community, state government and non- government agencies”
“It is important that this strategy is implemented prior to the bushfire season”
“The dry winter is certain to add to the bushfire danger”
“The council, as a significant owner of bushland has the key role in preventing or minimizing the effect of bushfires and this strategy, if endorsed by the full council, will be one important step”
