The Premier, in his capacity as Tourism Minister, has failed to guarantee his election promise around tourism budget.
Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon says it’s now clear there won’t be a $4 million increase to marketing spending in real terms.
“Will Hodgman couldn’t promise the Government will spend $4 million more on tourism marketing than was delivered in the previous year,” Mr Bacon said.
“Tasmanians, particularly those in the tourism industry, expected the election promise to result in a simple increase.
“Now the Premier is distorting his commitment by talking about appropriated figures and not the actual spend.
“How can Will Hodgman expect to meet his goal of 1.5 million visitors if he’s not prepared to fulfil his promises.
“Mr Hodgman also failed to make it clear if Tourism Tasmania is expected to contribute to the $119m cut in supplies and consumables.
“As budget estimates week drags on, it’s increasingly clear that Liberal ministers lack an appetite to actually answer questions.”
