Health Minister Michael Ferguson must categorically rule out a reduction in frontline nurses and doctors as the Government cuts more than 1000 public servants.

Shadow Health Minister Rebecca White today asked Mr Ferguson if he would be asking frontline nurses to put their hands up for voluntary redundancies.

“Michael Ferguson needs to categorically rule out reducing nurse numbers as the Liberals look to slash the health budget,” Ms White said.

“The Liberals’ Budget gives with one hand but takes with another.

“Budget papers show $210 million will be clawed back from health by the Liberals.

“Yet again the Liberals say one thing – that they’ll protect frontline services – but do another.

“Nurses’ salaries are already being cut by this government – Mr Ferguson must rule out sacking them.

“That would be a broken promise.”
