The Liberal Government is committed to making energy a competitive advantage and delivering the lowest possible power prices for Tasmanian households and businesses.
Our belief in the potential of our energy sector is evidenced by our concerted lobbying of the Commonwealth Government to retain the Renewable Energy Target Scheme.
We are also working on Tasmania’s first whole-of-state energy strategy. As part of the development of the strategy an Issues Paper seeking public feedback was released in June.
29 submissions were received from a broad cross section of the community, including individuals, business customers, industry peak bodies, community organisations and energy businesses.
The issues paper sought public input on issues including sustainable electricity pricing, vulnerable customers, using energy to improve productivity and efficiency, economic development opportunities, and how we can best prepare for our energy future.
The submissions raised a variety of issues for Government to consider in the development of a Tasmanian Energy Strategy.
As Minister for Energy I thank the individuals and organisations who took the time to share their views on this important topic.
Submissions can be viewed on the Department of State Growth website www.stategrowth.tas.gov.au/energy/strategy.
Matthew Groom, Minister for Energy
