Break O Day Refugee Welcome Zone declaration
The Break O’Day Council will be signing the Break O Day Refugee Welcome Zone declaration this Saturday 4th October at 11:00 at St Marys Town Hall. Mayor Sarah Schmerl will be signing and saying a few words.
The Refugee Welcome Zone was set up by a group of dedicated community members seeking to support a compassionate approach towards people who seek asylum within the safety of our borders.
We believe we are the first regional municipality to have our region declared a Refugee Welcome Zone in Tasmania.
The purpose of this initiative is to welcome asylum seekers into our homes for respite and for time out and to also help them feel welcome and to know that we are safe and friendly community for people from all walks of life.
We have enormous support from our Council and members of the Break O Day community which shows we are a friendly and welcoming community.
