This is insane

Posted on

I travelled on the Spirit in July and (whoooppeee) as a result I’m now going to get a $3 rebate cheque in the mail.

This is insane.

How much would it cost them to process?

Whether the passenger gets a cheque in the mail or a bank refund (depends how they paid in the first place, I guess) the cost of rebating these tiny amounts is sure to be far greater than the sum involved. TT Line’s finance people have to go to do a whole lot of work, but they are obliged to do it because the carbon price charge that was paid now has to be refunded.

Hydro Tasmania (i.e. the state economy) loses at least $70 million per year as a result of the carbon price being abolished and this $3 petty reward is being touted by Rene Hidding almost as Tasmania’s economic salvation.

This is what I received:

With regards to the Federal Government’s recent decision to repeal the carbon tax, Spirit of Tasmania would like to provide further advice regarding your booking.
