Respect The Mountain were shocked to learn about alias’ being used in submissions to the Wellington Park Management Trust in 2012 and wants reassurances by the Trust that it won’t happen again during the current submissions for a boundary change at the pinnacle.
The alias ‘Nathan Carswell’ was exposed by Tasmanian Times journalist Bob Burton as being fictitious as well as having very close ties to Mount Wellington Cableway Co proponent Adrian Bold.

The submission made to the Wellington Park Management Trust by ‘Nathan Carswell’ contributed to changes to the Management Plan that removed the prohibition to cable car development on the mountain.
Respect The Mountain wants the WPMT to clamp down on just who is allowed to make submissions.
“Is it limited to just people from Tasmania, all over Australia or can companies from anywhere in the world make submissions? How will the WPMT ensure that submissions are authentic? The fact that a submission was made without a street address and an email address that can’t be verified, suggests that anyone can make submissions – including Bullwheel IC3 in Canada!” said Respect The Mountain spokesperson Jason Turvey.
The revelations of at least one fake alias’ involved in the cable car push reinforces previous allegations about ‘Astroturfing’ techniques being used to boost social media popularity on MWCC Facebook account.
MWCC has also had their Facebook account ‘Hobart Needs A Cableway’ closed twice for breech of Facebook’s Terms & Conditions.
