RACT Insurance is urging all policy holders affected by the recent strong winds and
storms in Tasmania to call 13 27 22 to lodge a claim as soon as possible.
RACT Insurance CEO Trent Sayers said it was still unclear exactly how many homes
and properties had been damaged across the state, but claims estimates put the total
damage at approximately $860,000.
“However, we anticipate this will rise to around $1 million once all claims are lodged and
processed,” Mr Sayers said.
Mr Sayers said the organisation was doing everything it could to make the process as
simple as possible for those affected.
“The sooner customers lodge their claims, the sooner we can go about assessing and
fixing the damage caused by the conditions,” he said.
With close to 500 claims lodged by RACT Insurance policy holders, Mr Sayers said he
expected more claims to be lodged this week once the full extent of the damage had
become clear.
“If your home was damaged during the storms we would also encourage those with
insurance to contact their insurer as soon as possible to make a claim, as the sooner we
can assess any damage caused by the storm, the sooner we can fix it,” he said.
“It’s also important to contact your insurer before you conduct any building work or
emergency repairs and to make sure you request permission from the insurer, as
unauthorised work may not be covered by your insurance policy.
“If possible, it is also a good idea to take photos or videos of the damage to your
property and possessions as evidence to support your claim. Keep any items that could
be repaired and if in doubt, check with your insurer.”
People who think their property may be unsafe due to damage caused by the conditions
are encouraged to contact RACT Insurance on 13 27 22.
